Donors donate blood free of charge and it is held in the blood bank. When a patient needs blood, those greedy, wicked and evil young men at the blood bank tell the desperate relatives that the bank is short of blood. They then request you to donate by yourself, get others to donate, or arrange for the required blood to be transferred from another health facility for the purpose. In the absence of all these, they tell you they can get donors for you at a cost. They turn around, and sell freely donated blood to you at three hundred and fifty cedis. Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop. Tell me just one reason why free donors should continue donating. Just one reason. The above was my experience at a teaching hospital recently.

@Citizen, exactly. My elder brother donated blood several times when he was in JSS and SSS. He has all the certificates. A few years ago when his wife had given birth and the doctors needed a little quantity of blood for the baby, he had to go and buy the blood. The certificates he presented to those in charge were not considered.
