WHO estimates that between 100 million and 140 million women and girls worldwide have been subjected to FGM. Three million girls and women a year are at risk of mutilation — approximately 8000 girls per day. It has been documented mainly in Africa (in 28 countries), and in a few countries in the Middle East (e.g. Yemen, Kurdish communities, Saudi Arabia), Asia and among certain ethnic groups in Central and South America. Anecdotal evidence and case studies show that FGM is now being encountered in various European countries as well.
Prevalence rates in Africa vary between countries. Countries with high prevalence rates (> 85%) are for example Somalia, Egypt and Mali. Low prevalence rates (< 30%) are found in for example Senegal, Central African Republic and Nigeria.

Our culture of paying cows as dowry is insurance against financial loss by the wife should the husband die.
It is also to make the man learn to keep his wife, love her and cherish her.
if young girls are dying from using unsterile tools why do we train doctors to do it to maintain our cultural heritage. ( Eye amanmere).
We love our women and other people love them too.

This can only be accepted if the sample size chosen actually represnts the entire northern Ghana or smaller part of the north? FGM as the name sounds, is not practised everywhere in the north as such the figure should be brought down a little bit to reflect the realities on the ground.

I will simply use simple data from the most recent national statistics to make my point. I am a Northerner and to be more precise, Dagbana. Anybody who knows the peopling of Ghana well (NOT intended to be ethnocentric), Dagombas make up majority of the Northern population. This majority group do NOT practice FGM. I have lived in some of the places that are arguably "most remote" of of the region and never knew of this practice. It might be a practice among some minorities (whether in Northern Ghana or else where), nonetheless, this is not widespread. If Dagombas make up the majority and given that not all Northern tribes will have this practice, how could over 51% of Northerners support this? Note that the Northern region alone is greater than Upper east & West combined (size & opulation - purely on statistical basis), and there is absolutely no way majority of Northerners (all 3 regions)could support this outdated act.
