This is Ghana before long we will be reading. that they are on strike because the govt had refused. to let them disclose their. lab diagnoses yo patients.

As much as I agree with the work performed by other para-medical staff in the likes of medical laboratory assistans, I disagree with the the advice that biomedical assistants seeking legal support to enable them tell patients the results of their findings. This is medically improper. As a student of medical ethics, it is not the responsibility of the laboratory assistants to tell patients the outcome of the laboratory analysis conducted. It is the responsibility of the the physician who ordered that test to tell their patients the findings from their laboratory test results. I wish suggest that patient rights to privacy and respect are adhered to and only allow physcians requesting a particular test communicate the outcome to their patients and not laboratory assistants.

Laws are made to change the status quo and respond to times and not people like you who will like it so because some group of professionals had been mandated to do so.

So even the paying Public or Patients have rights to know who perform their lab Test and also the rights to know Lab Test Results.

So even the paying Public or Patients have rights to know who perform their lab Test and also the rights to know Lab Test Results.
Pathology involves the study of Diseases, with the Pathologist, a Medical Doctor overseeing all services. A typical Pathology Department,includes Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology,, urinalysis, Histology, and Blood Banking. This typical structure is found in most General or specialist Hospitals. Then when we are considering Medical Diagnosis, we include the X'ray test, Sonogram Examinations, Medical lab Tests,
Nuclear Medicine etc etc. all these play roles in investigating diseases.
So in a typical big Medical Institution, a lot of Professionals come into play in the final analysis, i.e. Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Lab Scientists or Technologist, X'ray Technologists, Surgical Technologists. Then comes in technicians etc. A Technician too can be a Degree or a Non-Holder.
These days Pharmacies sell small tests devices or rapid test kits for HIV, Sugar==diabetes, and even HIV Test.
At most good Hospitals we have Point-Of- Care Testing, performed by Nurses, for Blood Sugar, Hemoglobin & Hematocrits.
Professor Raymond Osei, may not know it all, by being a Prof. in philosophy and classic. Ghana is too Book long and ignorant, there not have been invited to deliver a lecture during the lab Week.
I know a medical Doctor who did not investigate the pain of a Howard University Medical School Student, in Washington DC,USA, This lead to that Students death as a result of High Blood Sugar. A lab test could have saved this Medical Student's Life.
i did an x'ray Test, the results showed Black spots on my lungs. I got disturbed about it but being a city dweller, and having seen black spots on dead patients, I decided to have a second opinion because lots of mistakes go on in the Medical Field. The Second X'ray test showed negative.
Therefore, the Medical Field is evolving, with different Specialities Springing constantly. Ghana should catch up , fast. The Minister of Health should always have a Medical Education. Doctors will always go on strike and innocent patients will die because they can not make ends meet, economically. Whilst some or most illiterate MP's take $ 20.000.00, as car loans, etc. Anyway, this is a means to educate the Ghanaian Public.

Under normal lab practice,lab technologists,technicians or scientists as you may call it, don't report determinations or test results to patients or subjects.The results are sent to the physician or doctor who made the requisition and then to the patient.This is how it works in the traditional medical lab setup.It is unethical for the lab technologist to call the patient and tell him the results.
