We consume great quantities of salt and sugar (fanta and coke) in our foods here, and salted fish are similar in salt contents as bacon' therefore he is not far off the mark on the subject matter.

fresh corn has a lot of fiber - about 48% of the recommended daily intake per cup, which is very good. However, the same cup of corn gives you approximately 606 calories, which is pretty high. It is also high in carbohydrates which this article recommends we reduce intake of. Corn in other forms may also not be good because they may have been processed and thus depleted of good nutritional qualities. Moderation is key, so go slow on the kenkey and banku.

I wonder how many of our journalists or nutritionists even produce health related materials. This was curled from the Huffington Post and thus has an American context. If we were to get our journalists to be doing their own research on health and our foods, I am sure lots of lives will be saved.
I even get surprised when people justify too much red oil intake on grounds that it has no cholesterol, or banku etc when in fact no vegetable oil has cholestorol (which simply means animal fat). What we need to educate our folks on is the fact that it has too much saturated fat which has the potential of increasing bad cholesterol levels in us.
Of course I need to emphasize that in that village where meat consumption is limited but residents walk several miles a day to and from farms, schools, or the river side, high intake levels of oil will be fine since they burn it off anyway. That man who does no walking, but quaffs down too much beer in addition to several sticks of khebab on a daily basis, that's before going home to the wife's fatty foods better watch out. There is nothing like sikafro, it is all obesity, prone to diabetics, and heart attack. The poor oldwoman is always blamed when such people collapse and pass away without any prior warnings.
