What I have observed in this country is that the truth normally dont come out. The reason why our health institutions have failed is that, doctors have hijacked management of all health institutions though they dont have any ideas about management. Most advanced country have policy guidelines(policy&procedures) on all activities in the health institutions, whether medical or administrative. In Ghana all the managers are doctors and they believe they can use commonsense to run any health institution. Why is there no policy guidelines in KATH about handling of dead bodies or stillbirths?

This story has a sad and unfortunate twist and turns but it is not proper to make such a blanket or generalized statement that "Ghana doctors are wicked" it is true that few bad apples are in the system yet there are many very good doctors you can trust your health with.

I'm a doctor and a very good one with excellent ethical standard and there are several like me.

Yet I hope this is the beginning of the end of such inhuman act by health care workers. No parent should be made to go through such a horrific event.

KATH should put their act together because this is a wake-up call for them.

I suggest the ministry gives the family a good four bedroom self contained house located in a good area better than where the family of the baby is now living. If the family elders have my cast of mind, they would not need to even make a public statement on the official position that came out. There are wide ranges of administrative lapses that culminated in this unfortunate incident. There's no evidence that this particular stillborn baby was targeted by the staff of the hospital. It's just that the baby's body was caught in this nightmare. Fact is, the body is already burnt and there is no way the hospital can produce it. I sympathize with the family for the loss of the baby's body in this way. However, there's absolutely NOTHING that can be done at this point to bring back the body. No amount of threats and posturing by the family could produce any fruitful results. The best reasonable option at this point is for the family to cut their loses, accept compensation from the government, and move on with their lives. No amount of moral argument at this point would undo the harm already done. This is Ghana for you. We should all work hard to prevent any future occurrence of this situation instead of threatening to burn down the country because the body of a stillborn baby cannot be traced.

At least the basic facts of the issue should be held paramount in solving this problem. Where did the midwife place the so called still birth(s). Who disposed of them, where and how. Even if they were thrown into an incinerator, modern science would show a trace of human remains and the DNA of what ever is found. Ministry of health, please do not beat about the bush. Even if it involves millions of dollars for something to be done scientifically about this issue please do. Do not let Ghana down on this delicate issue in view of human rights, please!!!!!!!!
