  Thank God for the discovery of this single-dose drug by an African.
  
  I see it's about time Africans lead the way in discovering drugs for tropical diseases. We cannot depend on nontropical countries to discover drugs for treating our tropical diseases.
  
  Discoveries are not cheap. The cost of research is prohibitive for many universities and pharmacies in Africa.
  
  We Africans lag behind the discoveries of the pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies of the developed world in 1.a sound science-based educational culture 2. public investment (stocks) in biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
  Is it too late for Africa to catch up with the promising discoveries in research of the developed world? Definitely, not. It is about time we train students how to think scientifically as a culture in our universities so that they will have something to show for their education other than chains of degrees, certificates and diplomas.

  I think the govt should commit about 2-4% of our GDP to research every year for tropical diseases affecting only tropical African countries and Caribbean islands. Our politicians and businessmen are trying to be as rich as people in the developed world, we can do well by first privately investing in scientific research and stop this "chew and pour" studying we have been involved for the decades that our university education have been opened to our country. Sometimes, a Ph.D is not needed to be a scientific researcher but Ghanaians now are too concern in getting those Ph.Ds mainly because they want an ambassadorial or ministerial position to help them steal mother Ghana's money. Well done professor Leke and I pray that more scientists like you can learn from you and initiate other scientific discovery.

  So many Profs & Dr's in Ghana beating about the bush, receiving fat salaries & causing financial loses to the state. Why should they be entertained at all? Sack them now.
