I generally agree with the points expressed by Dr Somuah. However, I wish he had come out more strongly with what needs to be done to forestall the infection of Ebola of even even just one single Ghanaian.
For instance and I quote, "Dr Somuah noted that Ghana is one of the high risk countries and that is why it should take steps to ensure aggressive and stronger response." My opinion is that, we should not only be aiming towards a strong response.
What we should be looking for, is an uncompromising national exercise to PREVENT any possibility of this most mysterious and dangerous disease inflicting our already much stretched and economically stressed country.
Living in and commuting around Accra, the capital city, one does not get the least impression that the menacing threat of Ebola hangs in the air. Like everything else that we do, its business as usual.
Health institutions - even in Accra, are complaining that they have not been provided with the most basic medical equipment to prevent and combat Ebola.
Our filthy public habits are not being addressed. I have not noticed one single advertising bill-board in the public domain informing or educating the public about how best to avoid or manage the disease if it should enter this country.
I have not heard of any private education initiatives by individual medical doctors or even the Ghana Medical Association to deal with this unwelcome possibility. I would have thought that if, as our doctors have stated, they will not be prepared to clinically treat Ebola patients if faced with the possibility, at the very least, they can do more to avoid the incidence of this pandemic occurring in the country. They, theoretically are the ones most qualified to prevent it.
The fact that several thousand cases of cholera have recently been recorded in Accra, should give an indication of what may happen if, God forbid, Ebola slips into the country. Even the incompetent Mayor of Accra is still in office after mismanaging Accra to condescend into one of its worse health nightmares in recorded history.

The government needs to build at least one ebola isolation center in each region. It cannot cost more than the mansions they are building.

Ghanaians will never change their cultural practices even when facing death of themselves, brothers and sisters. They know what causes Cholera but refuse to stop defecating in public places, wash hands after wiping themselves, clean up the filthy environment and stop eating bats, rats, monkeys or food prepared by people under unhygienic circumstances.

It is not enough to call upon us to change cultural and religious practices. You must call call upon the government not to take decisions that will endanger and expose the nation to spread of Ebola. African cup of nations should not be held in Ghana or any African Country. We have an epidemic ,our leaders should come together and decide to hold on, for once they should put aside the greed for cheap money at the cost of lives of their people. I cannot see a mother ever exposing her beloved children to such danger. President Mahama should rescind on that decision to hold the African cup of nations in Ghana. If he does not , and Ebola epidemic gets here then the blood of those who should die will be upon him and his decision makers.
