People are dying needlessly from kidney failure caused by toxic substancesin some of these concoctions.
We should be proud that this trial is being conducted in this country as it raises our research profile

I have found the geopolitics and epidemiology of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) particularly intriguing. It was first discovered in 1976 in the erstwhile Zaire, the quintessential failed state in Africa. After the brutal assassination of Patrice Lumumba in 1961, Mobutu Sese Seko was installed as a puppet king. A murderous and corrupt tyrant, Mobutu ruled his people with a merciless iron hand for the better part of three decades. Apart from the marble palace he built in his ancestral home village of Gbadolite, Mobutu did not construct a single school or clinic from what the Belgians left during their precipitate exit from King Leopold’s benighted estate.
Then as now, the country has remained a playing field for multinational mining interests and other avaricious vultures. The world powers will never allow the DRC – a country the size of France, Germany, Italy and Britain combined – to evolve into a strong, united and prosperous country. It is not altogether surprising that the first case of Ebola surfaced in that long-suffering country.
In May this year, the founder of the French extreme right National Front party, Jean-Marie Le Pen, outraged the civilized world by declaring that the Ebola virus could be the perfect solution to the population explosion in West Africa, and, by extension, Europe’s “immigration problem”. Speaking at a cocktail reception in the port city of Marseille in the eve of the European parliamentary elections, he declared that “Monseigneur Ebola could sort that out in three months”.
I had occasion to make reference to that sinister commentary by Le Pen in this column. What I find disquieting is that no one in Europe or the Western world found it necessary to call the man to order for those outrageous comments. Paradoxically, the party now led by his daughter Marine Le Pen went on to win an unprecedented 25 percent of the Euro-parliamentary votes.
When fascists express their mind, most people are wont to dismiss their opinions as the mere ranting of demented fools. When Hitler announced that he would invade Poland, nobody believed him. At a dinner banquet hosted for Arab leaders in Kuwait City, Saddam Hussein remarked that he would pay a special visit the following year. Everybody laughed it off, the Amir of Kuwait included. Fascists always say precisely what they would like to do.
History has taught me to weigh carefully what people say. I am not altogether surprised that the latest outbreak of EVD has been in West Africa and from the fragile states of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Ever since Sekou Toure said to “non” to membership in the colonial French Community in 1957, Guinea has been treated as a pariah by France and the francophone community. They never forgave Guinea for joining hands with Kwame Nkrumah in Ghana as vanguard of anti-colonial liberation in Africa. Guinea is today a member of the English-speaking West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ).
Guinea is the famed land of griots – custodians of the ancient gnosis that has sustained the African people since time immemorial. When Ebola broke out in the country recently, the youths went on a rampage attacking the French Medicins Sans Frontiers and other international aid workers. They alleged that anywhere these people went there was an outbreak of the disease.
Liberia and Sierra have only recently emerged from a long night of war. Nigeria spent about $10 billion and lost 5,000 of our brave young men in those jungles to bring hope to both countries. After we left, the International Economic Hit Men moved in, accompanied by a gaggle of Phoenician jackals that took over the mining interests and built elaborate cartels around the real estate sector.
It is intriguing that Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian-American who contracted the virus in Monrovia, decided to take a plane to Nigeria. When he collapsed at Ikeja Airport and was rushed to a hospital, the doctors diagnosed EVD and decided he had to be quarantined. The Chief Medical Director was prudent enough to get approval from our Minister of Health. From all we have been told, Sawyer violently protested his detention. The Liberian Embassy made several agitated efforts to get him released.
The Sawyer saga leaves many questions unanswered: Knowing that he might have contracted the virus, why did the authorities in Monrovia allow him to board a plane to Nigeria? Why did a supposedly educated man like Sawyer – a consultant to ECOWAS — behave so primitively against his quarantine, knowing full well the risks that he posed to the public? Why did the Liberian Embassy in Abuja allegedly insist that the man must be released? How did he escape and who might have assisted his successful escape?
Was somebody hell-bent on ensuring that this pandemic contaminates as many Nigerians as possible? Why West Africa, why Nigeria? At a time when our government seems at last to be taming the Boko Haram monster, are there sinister forces that want to ensure our country is faced with yet another form of warfare?
Is Ebola some kind of WMD? Are there sinister forces that want to ensure that Africa’s fastest growing regional economic community is brought to its knees?
Last week the consultant physician and endocrinologist who looked after Patrick Sawyer succumbed to the virus. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh was a respected doctor from the well-known Adadevoh family. Her late father was a distinguished medical scientist and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. A great granddaughter of Sir Herbert Macaulay, founding father of Nigerian independence, she also counted the venerable Bishop Ajayi Crowther as an ancestor.
A dear friend of my youth comes from that family. Quiet and self-effacing, they are people of the highest intellect, character and decency. Nurse Justina Obi Ejelanu who worked with Adadevoh in looking after Sawyer has also perished. Both women paid the ultimate sacrifice to save us from the evil scourge.
Because of their love and sacrifice — because of God’s protection — Nigeria will not only survive; we will prevail.

Clinical trials are divided into Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and sometimes Phase 4.
Phase 1 trials only test the SAFETY of the drug in HEALTHY subjects. Phase 1 studies investigate the absorption, metabolism, and excretion of the drug. Phase 2 trials then proceed to test the safety and EFFICACY of the drug in a SMALL number of subjects. Phase 3 trials test the safety and efficacy of the drug in a large number of subjects. Only after Phase 3 does the company/institution apply to have the drug marketed. Some regulatory authorities may ask for Phase 4 (post-marketing trials) to continue to monitor for low incidence adverse events that might occur in say 1 in 10,000 people, and that might not have been detected in Phase 3 trial that used sample sizes of say 1000 subjects.
That is all there is to it. No more, no less. Phase 1 trials are always done, and are always done in HEALTHY subjects, since the goal is purely SAFETY!! Go and do some objective reading, be level-headed, unemotional, objective, and the truth shall set you free.

What does it mean when you say Nobody is interested in using the people of Ghana as guinea pigs? All we've read here and what we are furious about is that vaccines are to be tested on humans, Ghanaians, get it? How many times have these companies tested their drugs in Ghana or in Africa for that matter? Only in the case of a deadly virus, hmm? You don't seem African and that is obvious! The name Ebola demeaned Africa to the lowest level. It was also said that that whole thing started from a laboratory testing in Sierra Leone. If these tests are done in healthy people then we in Africa are not the ideal people for these drugs to be tested on. If anything, all you have done is given people cause to be suspicious of you. I for one was a bio science major and understand the clinical trial process well enough. Nonetheless, I would never allow European/American corporations such room to do their dirty work in Ghana.
Finally, stop the silly academic sophistry (i.e. describing the clinical trial process and then calling people "clueless"). Instead, address the concerns of those commenting. European/North American corporate interests are rarely altruistic. Thank you.

I was nearly charged when I left the hospital without letting the baby boy be vaccinated. I gave the nurses some real UNDERSTANDING and they simply let me go. The boy is now five years old and has only suffered a cold once in his life...

WHO convenes Meeting for the Assisted Review of the Janssen Ebola Zaire Vaccine Clinical Trials Application by Representatives of Ethics Committee and National Regulatory Authority of Sierra Leone in Accra Ghana
Accra, 27 April 2015 - Despite signs of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) epidemic abating in West Africa, efforts continue to find an effective vaccine that can fight the virus both now and for future generations. As the race for an Ebola vaccine continues, experts gathered in Ghana from 8-10 April 2015 to review the clinical trial application for the Janssen Ebola Zaire Vaccine that will take place in Sierra Leone.
The meeting aimed to review the scientific and ethical aspects of the proposed vaccine trial in Sierra Leone to evaluate the immune response, identify any side effects and determine its effectiveness.
The meeting facilitated by WHO under the platform of the African Vaccine Regulatory Forum (AVAREF) was attended by 60 expert representatives of the Ethics Committee and the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone with support from Ghana’s Food and Drug Authority (GFDA), Health Canada, the European Medicines Agency, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) United Kingdom, and the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA). This meeting provided a forum for a thorough discussion on all scientific and ethical aspects of the proposed phase III clinical trial.
The meeting comes at a time when, despite the number of cases reducing, the goal of zero cases has not been reached. As at 15 April, the outbreak, which has persisted for more than a year, has infected 25,826 people and resulted in 10,704 deaths, according to WHO. There still remains a need to develop a vaccine capable of protecting the population in this epidemic and any future ones
The importance of collaborative partnerships in this regard is critical. WHO Coordinator of Regulatory System Strengthening, Director of Essential Medicines and Health Products (EMP) Department, Mr. Michael Ward explains the partnership with AVAREF, "WHO plays a key enabling role in supporting the AVAREF network, so that it may fulfil its potential in accelerating the availability of preventative vaccines and other important therapies for the people of Africa."
The meeting concluded with a signed agreement by Sierra Leone and Crucell Holland B.V., study sponsor and one of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson noting that further documentation and timelines are required before a final regulatory decision could be provided. AVAREF Chair Dr Beno Yakubu said, “Under the platform of AVAREF, this meeting is an indication of the due diligence taken by the pharmaceutical companies and partners to jointly ensure that the clinical trial process is of the highest ethical and scientific standards to ensure the safety of the volunteers and patients who will ultimately receive the vaccine.”
The meeting was co-chaired by Health Canada (Dr Lindsay Elmgren, Director, Centre for Biologics Evaluation), Ghana National Regulation Authority (NRA) CEO (Mr Hudu Mogtari) and the AVAREF Chair Dr Beno Yakubu).

About the vaccine regimen:
The Ebola vaccine regimen in development at the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, which was discovered in a collaborative research program with the National Institutes of Health, uses a prime-boost combination of two components that are based on AdVac® technology from Crucell Holland B.V., one of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies, and the MVA-BN® technology from Bavarian Nordic. The company is collaborating with numerous partners, including London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Inserm, to accelerate the development of the vaccine regimen. Evaluation of the vaccine regimen commenced with Phase I clinical trial at the Oxford Vaccine Group in December 2014 and this has been followed by Phase 1 studies in the United States (US) and Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania).
Other Clinical Trials in Progress on Human Volunteers:
The ChAd3-ZEBOV, developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), in collaboration with the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is in phase III clinical trial in Liberia and rVSV-ZEBOV, developed by NewLink Genetics and Merck Vaccines USA, in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Canada and WHO entered Phase III trials in Guinea. The trial which commenced in March in Guinea is being undertaken in close collaboration with the Health Ministry of Health Guinea, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Epicentre and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. "The candidate vaccine was given to 138 volunteer nurses and clinicians across four sites in Kilifi on Kenya’s Coast. No serious side effects were seen among them. Some experienced fever in the first few days after vaccination, while others developed transient pain and/or swelling of their joints" (The East African).

Okay, so it emerged that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa was a direct result of "inadequate measures" taken by the Kenema hospital in Sierra Leone which housed/houses a US "level 2" bioweapons laboratory. Apparently, there were cases of patients having had Ebola in past years, before the most recent outbreak.

My assertion: the most recent Ebola outbreak in West Africa was not a result of bats flying all the way from the Congo to West Africa but more likely a "controlled experiment" on human experimentation and population reduction carried out by some "powers that be" which directly influence US policies.
Two representatives of those visible "powers that be" are Bill & Melinda Gates as well as George Soros, both of whom are incredibly wealthy and influencial. Gates in particular has bought into the whole "population reduction" thing. They are both working for these "powers".
So, what's my point again?
(1) The US has developed powerful biological agents for specific racial groups. There is an entire genre of biological warfare that includes some of the deadliest pathogens known to man, such as anthrax, bird flu, certain strains of other kinds of flu (Spanish flu, Swine flu etc), Ebola, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and so on. This is not only done by the US, by the way, but they are way advanced in it.
(2) Furthermore, from time to time, actual 'pilot' experiments are carried out within select populations to test the way some germs spread. We saw this with the SARS outbreak in Asia. The Asians were however not experimented on with vaccines (to my knowledge) as Africans are currently being experimented on.
(3) Such outbreaks provide the needed excuse to test vaccines and new medicines on populations which would otherwise be weary of them. Yes, vaccines do not only contain what they are advertised to contain (weakened pathogens) but all kinds of other substances such as heavy metals and other poisons to the body.
(4) Here is the best part: companies like GlaxoSmithKlein (GSK) and Johnson and Johnson can then make tons of money in pharmaceutical products which will be purchased by individuals, organizations (such as the WHO, International Red Cross etc) and nations.
All of this will be avoided if deadly pathogens such as Ebola will not be weaponized. Last year, Japanese-American virologist Yoshihiro Kawaoka published some of his research on a deadly strain of flu for which the human body can build no immunity. This is in the public domain, so you can imagine just what exists under secret, top secret and above top secret weaponized biological warfare agents.

African leaders need to be aware of this and to take an active stand. The government of Sierra Leone attempted to investigate the Kenema bioweapons facility but as you may imagine, this move got little press coverage.
Meanwhile, companies like GSK, J&J and others have started human testing on willing and pliable Africans, for a tragedy that could very much have been man-made (deliberately orchestrated) and although in the name of saving future human lives, it could all be for financial profit and to advance US bioweapons research.

What happens if the medicine does not work; meaning the disease will now start to spread in these countries without the virus in the first place. Wake up Ghanaians and decision makers. Sorry the vaccine does not contain ebola virus. it contains a small fragment of it and it can't replicate. only produces protection which prevents ebola infection in future.
