Are healthcare workers in Ghana the section with the worst condition of service? Which profession or trade is the most lucrative? As a Ghanaian, I can confidently say that, those who are in public service who pride themselves that they can make ends meet are those who take bribes. I mean the unpatriotic and corrupt ones and this has been so ever since we gained our independence and that was what Kwame Nkrumah was working hard to try to eliminate until, the same corrupt and unpatriotic Ghanaians went for their bribes and undid his efforts.
The best a person is worth of is being patriotic and using all the knowledge acquired, courtesy of his country, to serve the nation by using the acquired knowledge.
Without good health every living organism is pitiful no matter his or her wealth. How the cured honours who cured him or her is a matter between that person and his or her creater. Doctors or healthcare givers are in no way immune to sickness. They must therefore know the effects of their actions better than anyone else.
What we need in Ghana is a good government not a change of government from one corrupt party to another maybe, more corrupt party. Nkrumah's dictum: "Seek ye first the political kingdom" still tells us that we have to really do our homework about people we elect to take care of our affairs before we can get this cycle of events behind us.
Anybody who blames anything else apart from corruption in this situation is just an opportunist. What I will like to hear politicians say is that, we are going to stop our evil corrupt ways when you give us another chance. If however, they insist that it is those who are in power that are corrupt, they are big liars and will do more harm to Ghana if they are given the chance which they have had before and proved themselves as equally corrupt.
Let us remember how our ancestors laid down their lives for the sake of our freedom and education and be humble enough to live a spartan live for the sake of the nation and those yet to join. All Ghanaians, no matter what their profession have to at least have their needs. We should live for our nation not for ourselves.
We must be careful about detrimental things we do which are unfortunately, irreversible. Not saving a life that could have been saved could reduce one's blessings if one is really a spiritual being.
