I agree that doctors should be held to a standard and assessed. The question is who should do the assessing? Patient satisfaction surveys are a good place to start. However, remember that what the patient wants and what they need can be different things. What will the patient say of the doctor who did not give an antibiotic they asked for because the doctor realized it was not needed?
This system will also not weed out quacks. What makes quakes so successful is their ability to make patients like them and trust them even when they are killing the patient.
May I suggest the the GMA needs to be more vigilant and monitor the physicians they are giving licenses to. Don't just talk to patients, also talk to the nursing staff. Many times they can tell when a doctor's practice of medicine is questionable.
