The issue with assault on mental health workers by psychiatric patients has gained prominence all over the world, and that steps should be taken to mitigate the phenomena. Nurses are the most assaulted mental health workers as evidenced by what is going on in mental hospitals in Ghana. However, in the case of Ghana the situation is far worse in the sense that nurses do not have protective devices or tools to work with. Safety is paramount to mental health care workers and for that the ministry should take immediate steps to protect mental health workers. There has to be a clear-cut policy to address the dangers that await mental health workers daily. I am not knowledgeable about mental health laws in Ghana but if there is no clause addressing this issue, then parliament should take up that issue. Additionally, patients should be well managed with psychotherapy and with pharmacotherapy to minimize assaultive behaviours from patients.Additionally, there must be an educational tool that will help minimize assault cases. lack of staff training is a major attribute to this phenomena. The leadership of mental health in the country should such for training protocols for mental health workers to minimize cases of assault. It would surprise many that poor staf-patient interaction plays a major role in assault cases.

NDC is campaigning on infrastructure and this is what a University Don says about it:
"The economy is number one. The economy is number two. The economy is number three because when we have a better economy all other sectors perform well. Building a hospital is a very good thing but that is not how it is done. If you have existing hospitals and you lack doctors, your doctors are going on strike and you do not have enough medicines, don't go and build another hospital. You have to ensure that the existing ones function properly. This is the detail President Mahama fails to give when touting his achievements in infrastructure. If governance is about contracting loans and investing them in infrastructure then Akua Donkor can do that."
DO YOU AGREE WITH HIM?

Accra Mental hospital has not changed since the 1980's. Various Govts have never seen this area as a priority in order to make strategic plans for the development or modernisation of this area. It is a problem but not theirs. Instead more money was invested into Ridge hopsital not a bad idea however equaIly money should have been earmarked for Accra Mental Hospital as well.
