  As soon as the leaders and decision makers of this country decide to stop going abroad for medical evaluation, checks and instead undertake medical evaluation right here, there will be enough funds to properly equip the facilities in the country for this vital specialists. The result will encourage more students to study and thereby produce these healthcare professionals. How will they (decision makers who utilize funding's) be able to see the need of a neurosurgeon, if they go abroad and evaluate their health, get treatment and pay for it from state coffers? Who the cup fit? ...... I hope it makes some wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

  The problem isn't that people are not willing to specialize in neurosurgery and other surgery subspecialties, the problem is that doctors and specialists are happy to always boast abt the fact that they are very few in Ghana ...

  The problem isn't that people are not willing to specialize in neurosurgery and other surgery subspecialties, the problem is that doctors and specialists are happy to always boast abt the fact that they are very few in Ghana and try their possible best to fail and discourage others in becoming specialists too. It's Selfishness. They just want to maintain that status quo, these specialists are hipocrites.

  Say this to the west Africa/ghana college nonsense. They frustrate any dr who wish to enter that specialty.Even he Dr Tamakloe had to go to cuba to specialise out of frustration

  Length of training can't be an excuse. It's interest, opportunities and encouragement from seniors. Hopefully there's a well equipped tertiary referral facility to provide more advanced care as well as provide training and develop protocols and guidelines to guide care in referring centers. Also the NS team should create a communication channel which can accessed for advice. Whilst waiting for the numbers to improve, the 15 can still make an impact.
