President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is optimistic of a resounding victory for the New Patriotic Party in the upcoming December 7, 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to the President, the achievements of the party in government gives him an assurance that the fortunes of the party at the polls on December 7 will be even more better than the results of the 2016 elections that brought the party to power.

In the 206 elections, President Nana Addo obtained over a million votes more than his contender, John Dramani Mahama.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd at the party office after filing his nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential elections, President Akufo Addo also announced that he will maintain Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate for the 2020 general elections if he is declared flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party.

“Our party rules demand that you need to choose a vice-presidential nominee as soon as you are declared a flagbearer. This is not something we need to think so much about. As soon as I am declared as flagbearer, I am going with this same man. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the same man I’m running with. Still maintained, not changed,” said President Akufo-Addo.

As at the time of filing this story, Nana Akufo-Addo is the only person to have picked up presidential nomination forms for the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming primaries.

The President assured the rank and file of the party of his commitment to work hard to consolidate the confidence reposed in him to deliver victory for the party in the upcoming elections.

He added that although the party has an enviable record going into the elections, it still requires that members of the party put in all their efforts to ensure that victory is maintained.

In furtherance of this, he made a passionate appeal to all party members to participate fully in the upcoming exercise to be conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana to compile a new voters' register.

The Electoral Commission has announced that it will begin compiling a new voters’ register on Sunday, April 18, 2020.

“Please take the registration exercise very seriously, ensure that all people who are eligible to vote go to write their names in the new register .because if you fail to do this, you will not be able to vote in the upcoming election”, the President said.

Additionally, the President advised that the conduct of the upcoming parliamentary primaries slated for April 25 be done in an atmosphere of peace and devoid of anything that would negatively affect the fortunes of the party in the coming elections.

He reiterated that it was important that the party maintained a unified front to enhance its fortunes at the polls come December 7.

The President was of a firm view that the opposition has no message and record to defend in the coming elections, adding that their stewardship sunk the economic fortunes of the country into an abyss.

“Someone says he wants to come back to complete the work he started. What did he start in the first place if I should ask? Under his tenure, Ghana retrogressed; we must not allow a repeat of that ever in our history”, the president said.

President Akufo-Addo maintained that “Ghanaians are wide awake, and we will not allow such a mistake to ever happen."
