2024 Election: Dr Boamah to beat Baba Sadiq, NPP to retain 4 'deep blue' seats in Accra - Poll

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is poised to retain its parliamentary seats in its strongholds in the Greater Accra Region, according to the latest poll by Global Info Analytics.

The poll indicates that the party is comfortably leading in the parliamentary race for the Okaikwei Central, Okaikwei South, Anyaa Sowutuom, and Trobu constituencies, even though it is trailing behind the opposition National Democratic Congress in the presidential race.

The poll showed that in the Okaikwei Central constituency, incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and NPP parliamentary candidate Dr. Patrick Yaw Boamah is significantly ahead of his closest contender, Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress.

"In the parliamentary election, Patrick Yaw Boamah leads in Okaikwei Central with 50.5%, Baba Sadiq with 36%, 6.9% of voters do not intend to vote, while 7.6% are undecided. Hon. Patrick Boamah won the seat in the 2020 election with nearly a 19% margin," an executive summary of the poll reads.

In the Okaikwei South constituency, the incumbent MP and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, leads her NDC contender, Ernest Adomako, by less than two percentage points.

"In Okaikwei South, the incumbent member of parliament's chances of retaining her seat are hanging by a thread as polls show the race is tied, with Dakoa Newman leading with 40.4%, followed closely by Ernest Adomako with 38.5%. 10.6% are undecided, and 10.5% will not vote. In the 2020 election, the incumbent won her race with nearly a 22% margin."

Also, in the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency, Elder Emmanuel Tobin, who beat incumbent MP Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi in the NPP parliamentary primaries, leads with 41.8% of voters indicating they would vote for him. His closest challenger is the NDC's Emmanuel A. Allotey, who received 31.9% of constituents' support.

For the Trobu constituency, NPP's Gloria Owusu, who ousted MP Moses Anim in the party's primaries, leads with 44.8% of the vote. Dr. John Kofi Halm, the NDC parliamentary candidate, came second with 36.7% of the votes.
