Political analyst and Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere says a lot of women are likely not to vote for the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the December 7 election following the choice of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Running mate to the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Minister for Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 officially outdoored in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region which is the party’s stronghold.

The Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia pledged to collaborate closely with his Running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to provide bold solutions to the people of Ghana.

According to Dr. Bawumia, he finds Dr. Opoku Prempeh to be the perfect person to partner him to win the December 7 election and also work to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the unveiling of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka NAPO, Dr Bawumia said, “NAPO is knowledgeable, I have worked with him for the last 16 years. I have high respect for him, he’s a problem solver, he is a generational thinker and so I know that I can work with. We share the same vision, and I believe he’ll be a great partner for me and work to bring bold solutions for the people of Ghana. So I have every confidence in Dr. Matthew Opoku Premeph.”

But in an interview with Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang on New York based Adinkra Radio, Morning show, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere said the gender factor will affect the NPPs electoral fortunes.

“NAPO is not the right person for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP will know in the not to distance future. If Bawumia had picked a woman that would have meant that by hook or crook we were going to have a woman as Vice President and that would have been beautiful. The gender factor will go against NAPO. The women are more than the men in Ghana here and so if the women decide that they will vote for the party that has woman at the top, the NDC will win the election.

“All these while we have been talking about affirmative action but we have not acted to make this a reality. If you look at the 2020 election result you will realize that the female factor worked for the NDC because of the woman, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang. I repeat that the gender factor will go against Bawumia and NAPO in the upcoming election.”
