UTTER UN-EMPIRICAL RUBBISH! It beggars belief, that this childish speculation is termed as "political analysis." From the days of Naa Afarley Sackeyfio, to Nana Konadu Rawlings, to Prof. Jane Nana Opoku, SINCE WHEN HAS A FEMALE CANDIDATE OR RUNNING MATE, SIGNIFICANTLY ATTRACTED WOMEN'S VOTES IN GHANA? There's no such precedent. Fact. The naïve assumption that "women will vote for a woman" keeps deluding some ignorant politicians to seek a female running mate. Sheeesh! Examine the data: NO FEMALE RUNNING MATE IN GHANA HAS MADE ANY IMPACT BY VOTE ATTRACTION IN ELECTIONS. Even former First Lady Nana Konadu, was soundly rejected by women.voters, and ended with a little over 1% of the total vote. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of all NDC presidential election results in various elections, reveals that Prof. Jane's addition to the ticket, had NO positive effect, or addition to eventual votes, as the NDC subsequently lost. Now, get this: Women do NOT vote for other women. Go and ask Hillary Clinton or Geraldine Ferraro in the US. And Margaret Thatcher only became PM in the UK, because in that electoral system, they vote for a party (Conservative or Labour) NOT a candidate. The leader of the party with a parliamentary majority becomes the Prime Minister. The NPP or NDC is better off choosing a popular, vote-attracting Presidential candidate, than a female running mate who makes no impact on the vote count. Napo is a popular royal from the NPP's stronghold in the Ashanti region, and will bring a ton of votes to the party. Prof. Jane, on the other hand, has no loyal demographic base (women or Akans) who will eagerly go out and vote because of her. Fact.
