The 2024 Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, has urged residents of the Ashanti Region to vote overwhelmingly for the ruling party in the pending elections.
He criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing the region in terms of developmental projects, citing former President John Dramani Mahama's claim that the region does not appreciate their efforts as evidence.
NAPO pointed out that during the NDC's eight-year tenure, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) became ineffective in the region.
Speaking at a campaign rally in the Ashanti Region, NAPO asserted that anyone from the region who votes for the NDC is contributing to the nation's downfall rather than its development.
"The NDC has a history of neglecting the Ashanti Region, and voting for them would be a betrayal of the region’s interests. Do you remember a former president said even if he constructs roads with gold, we would not appreciate it? Did he do it?
"When the NDC was in power for eight years, it was only in the Ashanti Region that the National Health Insurance collapsed. If you are in the Ashanti Region and you vote for the NDC, you are a nation-wrecker," he said in Twi, as shared by JoyNews on X.
The NPP continues its campaign as the general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024, approaches.
