Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, has termed Ghana as “a country without a leader.”
According to him, the ‘leaderless’ state of the country had paved way for ministers or government appointees, to do what pleases them.
“Ghana is leaderless,” he told Kwame Adinkra of Angel FM in Kumasi, adding, “…that is why the ministers in government do what pleases them and walk about freely.”
Dr. Apraku lambasted President Mahama for “appointing so many small boys who don’t have experience as ministers in his administration.” President Mahama’s ineffective leadership style, he stated, had resulted in making corruption the order of the day.
He likened Ghana’s present depressing situation to what occurred in the country during the early 1980’s where the country had no hope of survival. The former Offinso North MP said, “What pains me most is the fact that indiscipline is rampant among ministers in the NDC administration.”
Dr. Apraku bemoaned the acts of indiscipline by some top ministers in public at the ongoing World Cup tournament in Brazil.
He blamed President Mahama for encouraging the indisciplinary acts of his ministers, since according to him the President could not crack the whip on them for erring. He said Africa has leadership problems and Ghana, his motherland, is no exception, adding that Ghana has leadership problem, currently.
The NPP stalwart was doubful if Ghana could be transformed under Mahama’s NDC administration, noting that the government lacks competent men to pull the strings for the country to develop. He claimed that if he were the president, he wouldn’t hesitate to sack ministers that misbehave.
Presidential Ambition
Dr. Apraku announced that his long cherished dream of becoming Ghana’s President on the ticket of the NPP was still intact, maintaining that if he becme Ghana’s President after 2016, he would not toe the line of President Mahama. He said he would rather appoint experienced, hardworking and patriotic people to occupy key positions in his administration.
The former MP stressed that corruption and indiscipline would not have a way in his government.
