Minority in Parliament has rejected amendments made to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill and is calling for the restoration of the version passed by Parliament in 2024.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, June 1, 2026, the Assin South Member of Parliament John Ntim Fordjour, described the changes as a dilution of the original bill and accused the government of adopting a different position from what it previously supported.

According to him, the amendments have weakened the effectiveness of the legislation and departed from the expectations of many Ghanaians.

Questioning the government's stance on the revised bill, he asked, “What kind of hypocrisy is that? What kind of double standard is that?”

Ntim Fordjour further warned that the changes made to the bill could undermine its purpose.

“These are dangerous dilutions. These are dangerous dilutions and insertions. We should not be allowed to just go like that,” he stated.

The Assin South MP insisted that Parliament should revert to the version that was originally approved.

He argued that the 2024 bill contained stronger provisions and would serve as a more effective deterrent.

“We want the old bill to come. The old bill is what has the teeth; the deterrence and the teeth to bite,” he said.

His comments come amid ongoing debate over revisions made to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill before it is presented for presidential assent.
