The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has commended Ghanaians for the peaceful manner in which they exercised their franchise in the second day of voting across some part of the country.

CODEO observed that voting in the affected polling stations was generally peaceful and largely incident free and wish to commend the Electoral Commission for ensuring that eligible voters had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

A press release signed by Professor Miranda Greenstreet, Chairperson of CODEO and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday said.

It urged leaders of political parties to restrain their supporters from taking the law into their hands because they were not satisfied with any given situation. It also condemned crowd violence in any part of the country.

The release commended the security services for moving quickly to bring such situations under control and urged all to remain calm and allow the security agencies to perform its duties.

It said CODEO had deployed about 4,500 trained and non-partisan rapid response observers, out of which 1500 are PVT observers.
