Former President John Dramani Mahama has been categorical that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) shall not have, as part of its manifesto, anything to do with Comprehensive Sexuality Education ( CSE) since an overwhelming majority of Ghanaians are against it.

He gave the assurance when he met with the leadership of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values in Accra recently. The leadership of the coalition enjoined the former president to incorporate the rejection of CSE into their manifesto, whereupon Mr Mahama gave his assurance.

“There are traditions and cultures that we have that if we go and try to practice in the advanced countries, you will be imprisoned. And yet we don’t try to force our culture on other people, just like we also don’t expect that people should force their culture on us. We as leaders represent our people based on who they are, their identity and values,” he said.

The Executive Secretary and Spokesperson of the coalition, Moses Foh-Amoaning underscored the clandestine agenda of some powerful countries to introduce Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer lifestyles through CSE and the need for political parties to stop them in their tracks.

“This issue of Ghana’s policy towards the LGBT phenomenon must be addressed by the political parties as well. Ad we see you not just as a former President but a candidate of the leading opposition party. And devising your manifestos the coalition has a seven-point resolution that will be presented to you. We think that as people seeking the mandate of Ghanaians, it is important that you address this matter in your manifestos,” he stressed.

Ghanaians recently objected to the introduction of CSE into the curriculum for basic schools mainly because of the LGBTQ element in it. This objection led the government to declare that CSE wasn’t part of the curriculum in the first place.
