President John Mahama has urged the security agencies to deal humanely but firmly with any individual or group of people who foment trouble in the December polls.

The President said though he is aware that every election comes with its own unique challenges, he is confident the security agencies in the country are up to the task.

The President made the remarks on Thursday when he presented 100 new vehicles and other operational logistics to the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies in the country.

“As we prepare for elections I know and I am confident that you have what it takes to be able to ensure that we have peace before, during and after the elections.

“Let me also ask you to deal firmly with any persons who attempt to try and derail our electoral process. I urge to deal firmly with any such people, deal with them firmly but humanely” President Mahama said.

For his part the IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye commended the government for what he says is the biggest material investment any government has made in the service in the last 10 years.

He however gave the assurance that the Police in collaboration with other security agencies will protect the integrity of the ballot.
