The Volta regional secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Joseph Homenya has condemned the alleged insults hurled at the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV by the newly elected national chairman of his party Freddie Blay.

According to him, the comment by Blay was harsh in respect to the person of Togbe Afede, in view of the kind of relationship that exists between the Volta Regional caucus of the NPP and Togbe Afede.

“Tobge has been a very good person to us in this region and we have had cordial working relationship with him” he said.

Freddie Blay is alleged to have insulted Togbe Afede who is the President of the National House of Chiefs, suggesting the latter is ignorant and also talks like a palm wine tapper, following Togbe Afede`s comments on the acquisition of the 275 minibuses for 275 constituencies by Freddie Blay.

Mr.Homenya told Accra-based 3FM that although Mr. Blay erred in his response to the chief and businessman, he (Joseph) will call on the national leadership of the party for an immediate resolution of the matter.

“I will speak to the leadership in Accra and all the necessary things that need to be done to maintain this love,” he said.

Although he is uncertain how the issues will pan out, he is optimistic the matter will be settled amicably.

Meanwhile, the Asogli State Council in the Volta region is demanding an unqualified apology from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its Chairman Freddie Blay for disrespecting the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV.

In a statement signed by Secretary of the Asogli State Council, Stephen Tetteh, said the Council takes “strong exceptions to the statements, names, and comments in this reply as they are insulting and disrespectful.”

The council has warned that if the party fails to heed to their request in apologising for Blay`s offensive comment, the next line of action will be decided on.
