National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Stephen Atubiga is still lamenting over the GH¢400,000 filing fee slapped on aspirants by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.
He observes that the amount which is outrageous is way beyond any pride price yet to be paid the world over describing what is being practiced by the elephant family as ‘moneycracy’ and not a democracy.
“One of my philosophy in a democracy is wanting to lead. Democracy is a sacrificial job or a call to serve voluntary….and when the fees for wanting to participate in any election is higher than the cost of how much you paid or spent in marrying your loved one (wife), it becomes a problematic, “moneyracy” election”, he stated in a Facebook post MyNewsGh.com sighted.
The professional electrician who initial bragged he could pay his and that of former President John Dramani Mahama, is now soliciting the support of his well-wishers through a mobile money number in order to meet the total cost of the forms and filing fees.
“I want to thank all Ghanaians for their support and contributions.054 279 1096 MTN number for your support. 0266594928 is my direct line”, he said.
In his view, Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah neither paid that much to contest any election nor as bride price for the former first lady but is shocked that is happening in the present day.
“Kwame Nkrumah who got us freedom (Ghana) did not pay higher filing fees to contest election to be president, than how much he paid in marrying ( Fatiya) our former First Lady. Democracy is expensive only after you have won or been elected, and the state has to spend taxpayers money to protect you, buy cars, paying for your comfort as a leader of a country, not going through of selection by the ballot box, Internal elections should be the cheapest commodity one can afford to participate in democracy. Love you all”, he stressed
