Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished reports suggesting some members of the Hawks are responsible for the gunshot battle that occurred at the party’s Ashanti Regional office Monday.
Anthony Nukpenu’s comments follow reports by Police in the Ashanti Region that four members of the NDC affiliated group perpetrated the attack.
The Police Command named Husein Barnabas aka Warrior, Damos, Mijima and Abu Taliban as suspects who have gone into hiding after committing the crime.
Reacting to the Police report, the NDC Greater Accra Organiser insists that “The Hawks is not a vigilante organization as being churned out to the public” but rather a group of “decent” and “responsible” men and women including some executives of the party who will never compromise on protecting the good name of the NDC.
He said, “The group’s sole aim and responsibility are to provide operational, information and organizational support to the party in terms of party activities” adding that, “the group does not possess an armoury and doesn’t have arms with its members. The group does not assemble unless there is an impending party activity that demands our organizational support within the catchment area.”
“It is therefore very disgusting and useless for some individuals to hide behind decent groups to perpetrate crime in the name of party cover. We, therefore, strongly disassociate ourselves from these criminal young men who took the law in their hands to take people’s life,” Mr. Nukpenu stressed in a communiqué copied to AwakeNewsOnline.
He called on the police to arrest and bring to book, the “criminals and murderers” and also advised, “party supporters to remain calm, resolute and steadfast in the face of all provocation and intimidation”.
