The Youth Wing of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has thrown its support behind the nomination of Nana Gabby Nketiah as the running mate of party flag bearer Ivor Greenstreet.
In a statement signed by the acting National Youth Organiser of the party, Alhassan Basiru Nabila, which was released on Thursday October 13, the CPP Youth League called on all party supporters to rally behind Mr Greenstreet.
According to them, “It is our firmest conviction that his choice of Nana Gabby Nketiah as his running mate is wise, timely and reasonable. We fully support it. The duo we believe will lay the solid foundations for the social and economic transformation of our dear land, Ghana.”
Mr Nabila expressed displeasure over what he said was mischief by some individuals not recognised by the youth group and entreated the youth of the party to work towards winning the December 7 polls.
Below is the full statement:
CPP YOUTH LEAGUE DECLARES TOTAL SUPPORT TO ITS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE. IVOR KOBINA GREENSTREET.
We, the National Youth League (NYL) of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), reminded of our historical duty as the legitimate heir to our great Nkrumaist tradition, wish to express our profound support and solidarity to our presidential candidate, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.
Noting with disgust the incessant attempt by some individuals to undermine the collective efforts and valiant sacrifices of our rank and file, we wish to state our irrevocable support to our presidential candidate and leadership of our party.
In this vein, we wish to urge all well-meaning youth of the party to come out with their fullest commitment to support the presidential candidate and all our parliamentary aspirants in our effort to reshape the destiny of our country.
We state with honesty that our flag bearer has what it takes to lead this our beloved country to a better and prosperous nation. We urge also all and sundry who are disillusioned to join the GREEN TRAIN that will lead Ghana out of the dark recesses of corruption and inefficiency to a promised land of hope and glory.
All socially excluded and disadvantaged members of the society should join and support Ivor Greenstreet's bid to become the next president of the republic.
We the youth league of the Convention People's Party can truly affirm and confirm the fact that Ivor Greenstreet holds the blueprint to our nation’s development at this critical period. It is often articulated in his new covenant vision (Apam foforo), anchored on our time-tested philosophy of social justice pan- Africanism and self-determination.
It is our firmest conviction that his choice of Nana Gabby Nketiah as his running mate is wise, timely and reasonable. We fully support it. The duo we believe will lay the solid foundations for the social and economic transformation of our dear land Ghana.
The youth league has also noted with total disapproval certain shenanigans parading themselves as members of the youth league.
Indeed, as the acting national youth leader, I do not know or recognise any such group or people, I can authoritatively state that they have no such authority.
They are simply faceless and do not represent the youth league in anyway!!!
The public should take notice of them!
The flag bearer and the leadership of the party deserve our commendation and admiration for living up to our expectation.
It should be noted that by filing for up to 222 parliamentary candidates, we find it a huge achievement unmatched in our party's recent history.
We, the Youth League, shall try our best endeavours to complement and advance the cause of the party under the able candidacy of Ivor Kobina Greenstreet.
