Leave Delta Force alone, Azorka boys did worst - John Boadu

The Acting General Secretary of New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a swipe at institutions and individuals calling for disbandment of vigilante groups within the party.

Mr. John Boadu, who is also national organizer of the ruling party NPP questioned the call by the National Commission of Civic Education (NCCE) to disband affiliated groups to the party Delta Force and Invincible Forces.

According to the Organiser, the Azorka Boys did worse when National Democratic Congress (NDC) was in power but NCCE and other civil societies groups and the individuals who have suddenly found their voices did not called for its disbandment.

Mr. John Boadu on Asempa FM insists those arrested are innocent until they are proven otherwise by a court of competent jurisdiction advising the public to stop judging them in the court of public opinion.

He emphatically stated that the party does not intent to disband any group in the party unless they see their activities illegal which is in variance and affront to the party’s overall goal

He criticized the media for what he described as publishing falsehood about the thirteen arrested members of Delta Force.

Meanwhile all 13 have been granted bail by a Kumasi Circuit Court

Each of the accused persons is to post a bail bond of GH¢ 10, 000 with two sureties resident in Kumasi. A passport picture of the surety should also be provided to the court.

The accused persons are also to report to the investigating officer once every week.

The trial judge, Justice Obiri also ordered that the accused persons remain in prison custody until the bail conditions are satisfied.

It would be recalled that some members of the Delta Force on March 24, 2017 stormed the Ashanti regional coordinating council and forcefully demanded the removal of the regional security coordinator.

George Adjei was appointed by the President for the post but according but the groups claim they cannot work with him because he is not from the region.

They broke into Adjei’s office manhandled him and asked him to leave the premises.

It took the timely intervention of the Police to rescue Adjei who was whisked to the Central Police station for protection.

Initially, five suspects were arrested including the 37-year-old auto mechanic Kwadwo Bamba who is the organizer of the group.

Abubakar Sadiq Abdul Hameed, Jamil Issah and Hamza Mohammed later turned themselves to the police on Monday March 27, 2017 after being declared wanted for their roles in the violence at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council. But the police managed to arrest Awal Sadat Abubakar and others bringing the number of suspects to 13 and arraigned them before court only for their colleagues to attempt disrupting proceedings.
