The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will easily retain political power in 2020 if ex-President John Mahama is allowed to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has stated.

The Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, who is nicknamed as Wontumi, insists that among all the NDC members who have shown interest in leading the party during the 2020 elections, Mr Mahama is the weakest.

He has, therefore, appealed to the NDC, especially their delegates, to vote massively for Mr Mahama when the NDC goes to congress this year.

According to him, even though nothing can stop the NPP from retaining political power in 2020, it would be easier for the ruling political party if the NDC retains Mr Mahama as their presidential candidate for the polls.

“It is the wish of the NPP, in particular me, that the NDC would allow Mr Mahama as their flagbearer for the 2020 elections because he (Mahama) is the weakest among the NDC people, who are interested in the flagbearer position. We will not suffer one bit in retaining political power with Mr. Mahama as the presidential candidate of the NDC, in fact, we will easily retire him in 2020 for everybody to see,” Wontumi said on Nhyira FM.

He explained that Ghanaians are fed up with Mr Mahama, who nearly collapsed the country with bad management style, which characterised his administration.

Wontumi added that Ghanaians only remember Mr Mahama for presiding over massive corruption, arrogance, thievery and mismanagement, which saw power crisis collapsing businesses in the country.

He hinted that President Akufo-Addo has, within a short time, solved most of the mess that Mr Mahama left behind, especially the power crisis (dumsor).

He stated that Ghanaians have tried Mr Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo and they are highly convinced that the latter is the best for the country “and that is why I pray the NDC will allow Mahama to lead them for 2020 so we can win it easily.”
