Ghanaians are reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the ruling of Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, regarding the vacation of four seats.

They have expressed mixed reactions over the latest development, which makes it eligible for parliament to recognize the 4 MPs and allow them to represent their constituents.

Many have questioned the authority of the judiciary to suspend the ruling of the legislative arm.

While some have criticized the judicial system for being biased and unfair by ignoring other important cases pending at the Supreme Court, others strongly applaud the courts' democratic display in ensuring checks and balances.

Supporters of the New Patriotic Party in particular have welcomed the decision, expressing excitement over this latest development, while supporters of the NDC are opposing the Supreme Court’s decision.

One of them tweeted, “Separation of powers, what if parliament refuses to go buy the ruling of the Supreme Court?.”

Others, however, are not surprised by the outcome of events, as they predicted the courts would rule in favor of the NPP MPs.

"Hahahahahha, no news, we know them. Whenever the NPP tells you, let’s go to the Supreme Court, you should know that you will not win because that is the next NPP headquarters,” another user expressed.

The decision by the apex court effectively suspends the implementation of the Speaker’s ruling on October 17, 2024, pending further legal review and final determination.
