Mpiani, Baah Acheamfour et al cause of Ntim’s defeat - NPP delegates

It is post-New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Delegates Conference and delegates, members and supporters have been doing a post-mortem of the event as observed by MyNewsGh.com at the close of polls in Koforidua.

One issue that seems to interest a lot of these people is how veteran contender for the NPP chairmanship slot, Stephen Ayesu Ntim once again failed to get the nod of the delegates to fulfill his long-term ambition of chairing the elephant party.

Most people believe Mr. Ntim lost the election just one week to the 26th National Delegates Conference which took place in the Eastern Regional Capital, Koforidua.

Their reason is that Mr. Ntim seemed to have extricated himself from the tag that he belonged to the Kuffour camp in the party.

Things seemed okay as far as his campaign was concerned until the ‘needless’ press conferences by pro-Kufuor elements rocked his boat.

Of particular concern to his supporters are comments by former Chief of Staff in the Kufuor era, Kwadwo Mpianim that sought to denigrate and malign chairman-elect Freddie Blay in the lead up to the conference

Mr. Mpianim questioned the loyalty of Mr. Blay to the NPP, reviving the long-held perception of Mr. Ntim belonging to the Kufuor camp.

Others also blamed Mr. Ntim for his woes

They argue that Mr. Ntim’ revelation that president Akufo Addo had on three occasions impressed upon him to step down for then-contender Alhaji Short was one sure reason why delegates rejected him at the polls.

According to them, the revelation by Mr. Ntim is an indication that he could not be trusted with delicate Party matters and information as he could easily divulge such information to the public.

They saw his action as a sign that he could not work in harmony with the president.

While the victors are relishing their moments of glory and lacing their boots for the task ahead, the vanquished may be licking their wounds and counting their losses as MyNewsGh.com observed.

It is unclear what Mr. Ntim’ next move will be having been rejected for the fourth consecutive time by NPP delegates to lead the Party.
