Dr Mahamudu Bawumia with Sarah Adwoa Safo in an old photo
A former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has rubbished talks that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia single-handedly contributed to the ill-fortune of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 Election.
Admitting that things did not go well for the party in terms of its management of the country, under the reign of embattled former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, Adwoa Safo questioned why people drag Dr Bawumia into such talks when he was not the one in charge of finance.
According to the former MP, the woes of Ken Ofori-Atta are his alone because when she and other MPs from the NPP wanted him taken off the job, their request was shot down, leading to what become their misfortune and the eventual non-confidence slapped on them by the electorates.
“Was Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the finance minister? Were we not in this country and some of our MPs said our financial situation wasn’t good and so we should sack our finance minister, was is it done?
Trial of Ken Ofori-Atta and seven others opens in Accra
“Was he not left to mess things up before he was let go? How can we now lay that blame on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia?” she quizzed.
Explaining further, the former MP used an analogy of a driver’s conductor and a driver to drive home her point.
She described the situation as the conductor (locally called a ‘mate’) disregarding his master and going ahead to do as he wishes.
“You are a ‘mate’ and while your master is driving, are you able to push him aside and go and take over the steering wheel?
“We do not like speaking the truth and that is why we will mess things up and then refuse to listen when people speak to us. You take monies meant for pensioners and a lot of other things are the reasons we lost the election in 2024,” she emphasised.
It is unclear where Sarah Adwoa Safo was speaking but as has been seen in the video hared by Edhub on X, she appeared to have been addressing some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
