Muslim youth should desist from election violence - CPP

In commemorating Eid al-Adha with Muslims across the country, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) is praying for a peaceful election as it cautions Muslim youth to avoid being used by politicians to cause any turmoil.

“As a religion of peace, we also would like to urge Muslim youth to shun any politician who would attempt to use them to achieve their ends or to cause mayhem during this year’s December elections,” Prof Edmund Nminyem Delle, the CPP National Chairman and leader noted in a statement.

He maintained that Eid al-Adha which will be marked on Monday, September 12, is a significant feast that commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his only son in obedience to God’s command. It is, therefore, “the hope of the CPP that the feast will inspire us to work to maintain the peace in the country”.

“May the unity and oneness that symbolizes the peaceful gathering of families and friends, characterised by the sharing of meals with all, particularly the poor, help us to be more tolerant, respectful, and spur our willingness to continue to guard our relative peace and stability,” the release further added.

Ghana will be heading to the polls on December 7 to elect a president and parliamentarians to manage the affairs of the country for the next four years.

The stakes are high as the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) seeks another term with the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) doing all it can to win the mandate.

The CPP also believes this year is the time for them to return to power after the party was overthrown in 1966 and has not gone anywhere near the presidency since then.
