Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to pay allowances to chiefs who actively participate in Ghana's governance system.

The Vice President announced that under his potential leadership, a new NPP government would implement these allowances for chiefs.

During his visit to the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, as part of the second phase of his "Bold Solutions Campaign Tour," he promised that his manifesto committee would develop a policy ensuring chiefs receive a sustainable allowance to fulfill their duties effectively.

Dr. Bawumia also called for a revision of the Chieftaincy Act to integrate chiefs into Ghana's governance framework.

He criticized the longstanding exclusion of chiefs from the governance structure since Ghana's independence, declaring it a significant issue.

"The major policy I aim to introduce is a review of Section 63(d) of the Chieftaincy Act, to empower the chiefs further, enabling them to assist the government more effectively in governance.

"The lack of authority makes managing your areas challenging. Therefore, we intend to amend the law to grant you more power," the NPP flagbearer said.

"We will provide the chiefs with living allowances to ensure they have the necessary resources to perform their work," he affirmed.
