Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, has taken a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for tagging Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as an advocate of the LGBT+ community in Ghana.

He defended the former Minister of Education, emphasizing that he is not a champion of homosexuality.

This was in response to claims made by former Buem Member of Parliament, Kwesi Ashaimah, who alleged that NAPO is an advocate for LGBT activities.

The former MP referenced the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Curriculum, which received massive opposition, leading to its being scrapped under the leadership of NAPO as Minister of Education.

But reacting to the assertions, Afrifa-Mensa jumped to the defence of the running mate.

He described him as a man who respects his values as a family man and does not promote homosexuality.

“NAPO does not promote ‘trumu trumu’ [LGBT+]. This is a false narrative being pushed by the NDC. Last week, when Mahdi Jibril came on the show, he made the same allegations, and today, Ashaimah is doing the same thing.”

He has also advised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on its campaign.

He said NAPO as running mate brings a lot to the ticket of the NPP; hence, they should focus on their campaign and win.

“We believe that with him onboard, we will go places. We will win the elections. So let’s stop tagging him as arrogant. We should look at his positives and what he can do for the country. I will appeal to the NPP to hit the ground running and campaign effectively to secure our victory,” the MP said.
