NDC’s filing fees ‘communist inferior tactics’ to eliminate Mahama challengers – Obiri Boahen

The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obri Boahene has described the NDC’s GHC400,000 filing fee for presidential aspirants as a step by the leadership of the party to kick other aspirants hopeful leaving Mahama alone in the game.

He has said the step is to favour Former President John Dramani Mahama as he is the only one to be able to pay such huge amount becoming a “lone ranger”.

The NPP has not officially come out to criticize the action of their opposing party but some gurus in the party like Nana Obri Boahene and other have.

Speaking as a seasoned lawyer on Kumasi based Nhyira Fm, Obri Boahene said ”if you have been following the politics of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in recent times, you could realize that all that the party have been doing is geared towards Former President Mahama and no other person”.

The huge “four hundred thousand Ghana Cadis is just an attempt to drop out the others because it’s only John Mahama who will be able to raise such an amount”, Lawyer Nana Obri Boahene said.

Most aspirants hopeful have expressed disapproval of the fee including Mr. Stephen Atubiga who revealed on Friday that his colleagues aspirants have scheduled a meeting over the announcement of the fat money made by the Party’s General Secretary Asiedu Nketia.

But Mr. Sammy Gyamfi the party’s National Communications Officer has said the NDC will never reduce the price.

The NDC on 19 January 2019 will conduct its primaries throughout the 275 constituencies of the country to elect flagbearer of the party.

The party during a press briefing to make an announcement about the elections and other plans indicated that, presidential aspirants will have to pay GHC 400,000 filing fee and GHC 20,000 for the cost of forms. But women will only pay half the amount to contest.

Some personalities who have made their intentions to contest for the position include Former President John Dramani Mahama, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin, Mr. Kwesi Botchwey, Kweku Riketts-Hagan, Eliplim Agbmava, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Stephen Atubiga among others.
