NPP Primaries: Delegates give reasons for voting out Sowah Odotei

The National Patriotic Party delegates in the La Dadekotopon Constituency have disclosed that it took a collective decision to vote in a new parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2020 Elections.

The incumbent member of parliament of the constituency, Vincent Sowah Odotei was defeated by Gerald Tetteh Nyanyofio, a lecturer at the University of Professional Studies in the NPP Primaries held on Saturday.

Gerald Nyanyofio recorded 543 votes to oust the former deputy Communications Minister who came close with 376 votes whiles Comfort Adjei Kotey earned 46 votes out of the total 965 votes cast.

Sowah Odotei’s defeat comes on the back of the termination of his appointment as the Deputy Communications Minister on April 6, 2020, by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking to Ghanaweb.com at the constituency after the primaries yesterday, some elated party delegates revealed that the incumbent lost because he inspired division among his party members.

“Odotei is our leader but he is bringing division in our party and if we divide we can’t go forward. God doesn’t support anyone who brings division. So if we choose you as a leader let us come together for one goal, else we can’t reach our aim of winning 2020 and La Dadetokopon is our seat and we have to defend it,” one delegate said.

Although evidence surfaced that the outgoing MP shared blenders in an attempt to get delegates to vote for him, another delegate disclosed that “it wasn’t about an individual but a collective work that we all did that came with the victory.”

Members of the constituency said they were worried about their MP’s constant silence on the floor of parliament and his inability to meet the demands of the youth who were in dire need of employment.

Some of the party officials pleaded with the candidates to put away their differences and work together to win the December 7 elections.
