The MP for Nabdam, Boniface Gambila has threatened to take on the Electoral Commission (EC) over its mandate to conduct and declare elections in Ghana.

The MP, speaking on Top FM’s morning show hosted by Ekourba Gyasi on Wednesday, argued that the EC following its logo change without the coat of arms symbol renders it incapable to conduct and declare elections in Ghana because the coat of arms symbolizes Authority on its mandate.

His comments come shortly after the EC officially launched its new controversial logo yesterday , The Electoral Commission Chair offered explanations for what the symbols stood for and why the Commission decided to design a new logo.

She told a section of the media the EC is free to assert its rights under the law by being creative with a new logo. The round looking logo with the colors blue green yellow and white has generated more controversy ever since it was introduced.

With a similar logo already in circulation, there were claims the EC had plagiarized the new logo. But at the launching ceremony, Mrs. Charlotte Osei said there were obvious differences between the logos. Charlotte Osei also rejected suggestions the EC should have publicly invited graphic designers to submit designs before settling on one logo.

But Hon . Boniface Gambila said he will proceed to court for interpretation because the EC chair made a mistake in suggesting the EC and coat of arms did not represent the authority of the state.

According to him going by the logic of the EC Chair it means any other institution be it a radio station or other can announce election results contrary to the laid down rules that it is only the EC who can announce elections. He posits that the current logo of the EC without the Coat of Arms renders it powerless.
