Names of 513 Security Officials missing on Tema Special Voting List

A total of 513 security officials in the Tema Metropolis were unable to vote during Tuesday’s special voting, as their names were missing from the compiled register.

The breakdown is 162 from Tema East, 155 for Tema West, Tema Central had 20 and Kpone-Katamanso, 176.

Mr Gabriel Manu, Tema Metropolitan Director of the Electoral Commission, disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

Mr Manu, however, assured the affected security officials that they could exercise their franchise on Friday during the general election.

He explained that the problem occurred during the compilation of the special list, when security officials who were interested in the special voting exercise submitted their names, voter ID numbers, and constituencies, to their superiors for onward submission to the head office of the EC.

He said at the EC head office, the names were lifted from the main register, to prepare the special voters register, adding that the problem might have occurred during the transfer of names.

The Tema EC Director further announced that those who opted to vote in the special exercise and for that reason had their names in the special voters register, but did not turn up to cast their votes, could not vote during the general elections because their names had been deleted from the main register.

He stated that during the special voting exercise, out of a total of 570 names in Tema East, 458 cast their votes, Tema West had 606 people voting, out of the 720 registered voters in the special register.

Tema Central Constituency had 306 votes cast from the registered 357, while out of the 533 security officials in the Kpone-Katamanso special voters register, 386 cast their votes.

Mr Manu advised eligible voters to be calm, join the queue patiently, cast their votes, return home and go to the polling station for counting after 17:00 hours on Friday.

He said the collation centres for the various constituencies would be Tema East, Twedaase JHS, Tema West, Aggrey Road JHS, Tema Central, Chemu SHS and Kpone-Katamanso, and Tema Community Centre.
