The Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) has reminded Ghanaians that no law or individuals have the right to physically stop persons under the age of 18 from voting on Friday once they have their authentic biometric voters Identity Card.

He was addressing Journalist at a press conference in Accra on the issues of under-aged persons in the voters register.

A few days ago, the issue of underage persons which have bloated the new biometric voters register has become a huge debate and a worry amongst politicians and individuals since many believe it has the tendency of disrupting the voting process.

According to Oman Fm, the Chairman of the EC has reiterated that it is only the court of law which has the right to determine persons who can vote and those who cannot vote.

“Even when a four-year-old child comes to the polling centre to vote nobody can stop him, once he/she went through the biometric registration system. The only thing one can do is to allow him to finish voting and after, the court will determine the validity of the vote”. He said.

He added that the EC has also affirmed that “No verification no vote”, meaning once the verification machine has not authenticated the finger print, the prospective voter will not be allowed to vote.
