The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Wednesday interacted with queen mothers at Odumase in the Sunyani West Constituency.

The large group of queen mothers were from across the Sunyani West Constituency in the Bono Region.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who was on a campaign tour of the Bono Region, assured the queen mothers of her commitment to promoting the cause of women.

She said it is imperative that governments do more to uplift women and that is precisely what the next NDC government will do, adding that “girls education would be given special attention to ensure that more girls complete their study programmes”.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said NDC has many laudable policies aimed at empowering women and therefore urged the queen mothers to vote for her party’s presidential candidate, Mr John Dramani Mahama, to enable him further the cause of women and girls.

For their part, the queen mothers, who spoke at the gathering, commended Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for promoting women’s issues over the years.

They were confident that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang would become the first female vice president of Ghana after the December 7 presidential election.

The queen mother of Odumase No.1, Nana Yaa Adansi Puduo, who was one of the speakers, shared some of the challenges in their communities. They include poor road network, unemployment and the need to establish new teacher and nursing training colleges in their constituency.
