Rawlings declines comment on Zanetor-Mahama pair for election 2020

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has declined to comment on suggestions that his daughter, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, could be chosen as the running mate of John Mahama for the 2020 presidential election.

Dr Zanetor’s name recently surfaced as one of the possible figures within the National Democratic Congress likely to be selected to pair former President Mahama, who is seeking a comeback in the 2020 general elections.

Pollsters have tipped Dr Zanetor, who is the MP for Klottey Korley, ex CEO of GNPC Alex Mould, NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and former Finance Minister Prof. Kwesi Botchwey among others as the possible choices for the NDC and Mahama.

When asked by journalists Saturday morning what he makes of suggestions for his daughter to be chosen as the running mate of John Mahama, Mr Rawlings retorted: “I have heard of no such suggestion”.

This was when he joined other delegates of the NDC in the Klottey Korley constituency to cast his vote in the parliamentary primary being contested by three persons including his daughter. The others contestants are Hayford Quashie and Mohammed Bashiru.

Mr Rawlings however suggested he voted for Dr Zanetor, saying he voted for “the obvious one”.

Meanwhile, Mr Rawlings who is the founder of the party, has asked delegates and supporters of the party to comport themselves properly and do what he termed “the most obvious logical thing.

“Let’s not allow money to influence our choices,” he advised.



Asked to comment on the recent alleged cases of corruption in the country, including the Contracts for Sale expose which impugn conflict of interest and corruption against the suspended chief executive of Public Procurement Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adeji, Mr Rawlings said he has not been abreast with current happenings.

Notwithstanding, he said, he will continue the fight against corruption, because “it destroys too much and we can’t afford to allow it to continue so we are looking up to Attorney General’s department to collaborate with Mr Martin Amidu to ensure that the right things are done.”
