SONA2020: We never took lunch after walkout – NDC MP

The Member of Parliament for the Yunyo Constituency in the Northern Region, Joseph Bipoba Naabu has refuted claims that even though the minority walked out of Parliament when the President was about to give his address on the state of the nation, they ate the lunch that was served after the address.

“No it is not true, nobody gave us food. No food was given to us,” he told 3FM’s Sunrise Morning Show on Friday.

Available information indicates that a meal was prepared for all 275 MPs based on the list provided but it is not clear if all the MPs took their meals as speculated on social media.

Meanwhile, the MP has defended the minority’s decision to walk out of parliament during the State of the Nation Address.

Joseph Bipoba Naabu also accused the Akufo-Addo-led administration of being oppressive and tyrant.

According to the Member of Parliament, the decision by the Electoral Commission to compile a new voter’s register, non-payment of MPs’ Common Fund and non-payment of contractors who were awarded contracts under the erstwhile administration were some of the reasons that necessitated their action on Thursday.

He further questioned the independence of the Electoral Commission under the current dispensation led by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.

“There is no difference between the Electoral Commission and the President; it is the same register that gave the President the overwhelming victory the NPP keeps touting, so why change it?” he asked.
