Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ruth Dela Seddoh, has claimed that the men who assaulted former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, at the Odorkor Methodist 1 Polling Station were acting to protect the integrity of the ballots.

According to her, the individuals involved may not be members of the NDC but were motivated by a desire to prevent any irregularities during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

"They said they meant to protect the integrity of the ballot. That is their reason. We have seen situations where the police was present and Hawa Koomson had the laxity and effrontery to do what she did. I think that what has happened has happened,” she told the media.

She added,”They may not be NDC but some Ghanaians from this community who are just charged up to ensure that those excesses would be curbed.”

Dela Seddoh however offered an apology for the unruly conduct displayed by the group.

“It is unfortunate as it is and personally as the youth organiser, I will apologize on behalf of the people if they are NDC people," she stated.

Mavis Hawa Koomson was assaulted during a violent incident at the St. Peter’s polling station in Ablekuma North on Friday, July 11, 2025.

Eyewitness accounts have indicated that a group of unidentified individuals arrived in a pickup truck, stormed the voting center, and overpowered police officers on duty.

Hawa Koomson, captured in a viral video, was reportedly pushed to the ground and stomped in the chest and groin before police officers intervened and escorted her to safety.

Meanwhile, NDC's Ewurabena Aubynn has been elected as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North Constituency.
