Correspondence from Mumuni Yunus, Northern Region:
Former President John Mahama has rallied Ghanaians to vote massively against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in next month’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
The NDC Flagbearer stated that the December election is a contest between Ghanaians and the NPP, not just another battle between the NDC and the NPP, hence the need for Ghanaians to vote to reject the NPP government.
“When we look at the results, in Tamale Central we got 60.8%. This year, we have to raise that percentage to above 75 to 80 percent because this election is between the whole of Ghana and the NPP; it’s not between NDC and NPP,” he said.
Mr. Mahama, who was speaking at a rally in the Tamale Central Constituency as part of the second phase of his campaign tour of the Northern Region on Saturday, said the Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-led government has imposed severe hardship on Ghanaians, making life in Ghana unbearable.
The former President added that Ghana was better under his administration.
“The country that I handed over to Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia on 7th January 2017, that is not the same Ghana we’re living in. I can beat my chest and say that our lives were far better under the NDC administration than they are today. Today everybody is going through hardship,” he noted.
“They came with very sweet words and convinced Ghanaians that they were going to be a better government. Today, everything has gone backwards; the quality of our education is a problem, the quality of healthcare is a problem. Today, if you don’t have money, you’ll die because if you go to the hospital without money, you’ll die,” he added.
Former President John Mahama ended his Northern Regional tour on Saturday with visits to the Tolon, Sagnarigu, Nanton, Tamale North, Tamale Central, and Tamale South constituencies.
The NDC Flagbearer pledged to embark on major projects, including the completion of the Tamale Water Expansion Project and the construction of a bridge over the White Volta River at Daboya to link the Tolon District to the Savannah Region, among others.
