Vote for NDC MPs for smooth approval of gov’t policies – Tekper

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Seth Tekper, has advised supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote massively for the parliamentary candidates of the party for smooth approval of Government policies in the Legislature.

He said the minor rifts in the umbrella family should not discourage them from voting for the party’s parliamentary candidates in the upcoming general elections.

According to him, voting skirt and blouse against NDC parliamentary candidates could impede smooth implementation of government policies if the party loses majority seats in the Legislature whiles the President is maintained for another four-year term.

According to the Finance Minister, most government policies cannot be fulfilled until Parliament approval, hence, getting the numbers in Parliament is paramount to the smooth running of government business.

To this end, he urged supporters of the party to ignore the pockets of grievances in the party and vote massively for the party’s Parliamentary candidates.

“I want you to appreciate that the President’s policies in many instances are not fulfilled until it goes to Parliament for approval. The budget that I present to Parliament for example is first presented to Cabinet which the President presides before it goes Parliament for approval. So, if you are not voting for your MP, who do you expect to vote for the President’s policies?

The Finance Minister said this in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of a campaign launch by the Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Jeff Tetteh Kavianu.

Mr. Seth Tekper further stated that even though the President has performed extremely well, supporters of the party should not be complacent.

Instead, he said, they should turn out heavily on December 7 to vote to retain President Mahama in power.

“We know the President has done a lot of work, but the President’s work in the constituency is done in conjunction with the MP, So, we want them to see it as a joint effort. The MPs are the ones who are in Parliament and therefore should not be complacent and stay at home,” he stated.

Kasapa FM’s reporter, Kojo Ansah, who attended Mr. Terkper’s press conference further reports that the NDC has been saddled with internal rancour in the Upper Many Krobo constituency for some time now.

The feud among the party stalwarts, Ansah noted, erupted after the parliamentary primaries.

One of the candidates, Bismark Tetteh Nyarkon, who lost the poll accused the incumbent MP for rigging the election.

Not content with the outcome of the poll, he petitioned the party hierarchy to intervene but his effort did not yield any result.

Not even a demonstration with a threat to vote skirt and blouse will let the party hierarchy have a change of mind.

Party officials say the internal wrangling have been fixed with aggrieved party supporters now coming on board to support the parliamentary candidate.

The MP for the area, Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, addressing the supporters, urged them to unit and rally around him to garner more votes for himself and President John Dramani Mahama.
