Bawumia and Mahama, two incompetent and corrupt politicians who are contesting for the presidency by default are promising everything from digitalization to AI to fight all the problems they have jointly helped to create at different times in their capacities, but not how to do something about corruption. So what is it about these politicians refusing to mention the word corruption as if it does not exist? The answer is simple. They do not intend to do anything about it. Rather, the are going to continue with the status quo and make things worse for the average Ghanaian. If the current governance situation is to be maintained in the next administration, Ghana will be a hell of a place to live and Ghanaians should be prepared for that. It does not require AI to fight galamsey. It requires commitment to implement our laws, dedication to do the right thing and love for country to achieve result.

Those ideas will bear fruit. However, for galamsey to be stopped in its tracks, various steps need to be toaken:

1. Have a list of all licensed operators on hand.
2. Lobby Parliament to pass a law that will allow the government to cease lands that are being used for galamsey operations, provided the culprits have been successfully prosecuted. This will discourage galamsey operators from working with their fellow crooks to pose as rightful owners of the lands and thus ask for the return of the land. Those convicted of galamsey must forfeit the land, and the ones who hold mortgages or interest on the land will have to deal with the galamsey operator. The law should also prevent any persons convicted of galamsey from ever participating in any government contracts or business. The law should also allow courts to increase drastically the fines and prison sentences imposed on galamsey operators.
3. Recruit informers in areas that have mining operations, and let these informants be on the look out for any illegal mining and report it to the authorities. If the information leads to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects, the informant should be given a handsome financial reward. The government needs eyes and ears on the ground.
4. Have the air force fly over mining areas from time to time to observe any suspicious activities.
5. Make use of drones. Fly drones in areas where reconnaissance planes may not fly into.
6. Publish the names of all persons arrested for galamsey in all the local media, for this will shame the culprits while sending a message to others to not engage in galamsey or else risk being shamed.
7. Vigorously prosecute all all galamsey operators and workers. Someone in government should monitor these prosecutions to ensure that they're carried out properly and to the finish.
8. The government must make arresting and prosecuting the galamsey owners its priority, for the hands and legs are of no use once the head has been cut off. The owners are the heads, and the workers are the hands and legs. Every effort must be made to go after the owners. Where the government has successfully seized lands belonging to galamsey owners, the government needs to work with traditional leaders in those areas to determine how the lands can be returned to those traditional leaders, provided they had no hand in the transfer of lands to the galamsey owners. Government must be transparent in its dealings of seized equipment, lands and other assets.
