David Boakye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Secretary for Bono East, has claimed that some members of his party forfeited following their national chairman for a regional tour, to rather attend a similar exercise being undertaken by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

This claim by Boakye follows the recent regional tour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, which he said prompted a suggestion for the NPP chairman to also embark on a similar exercise in the region.

However, the Bono regional secretary said their intention was foiled because the very people in their party who should have supported the idea were rather following the NDC’s party leader.

Boakye, speaking in a video that has been shared on social media and seen by GhanaWeb, stated that after hatching the idea and sharing same with his fellow party executives, they had to cancel it due to the disinterest.

“Bono East, God is my witness. I said, look here. Asiedu Nketiah had come to spend one good week in my region visiting villages. I suggested the same to my regional chairman that we should invite our (national) chairman too so we can also do the same.

"But after two days, we resolved and told our chairman (who had already come to the region) to go back,” he narrated in the viral video.

Boakye further explained that the tour began from New Longoro, the last town in the Bono East Region, bordering Savannah.

However, upon arrival, he said the town had been deserted.

“The place was completely empty, including the chief. Where we were supposed to have the programme was deserted. What we saw was just pure water rubbish,” he said.

He added that despite announcements made at information centers for three consecutive days, the turnout was poor.

The chief of the community they were to visit, who is a teacher, eventually showed up in simple attire with only one other person accompanying him, he added.

“Then the Zongo chief and imam came with three other people, they were just seven at the high table. Then our polling station executives were there. The people were not up to 45.

“Our national chairman is visiting a constituency where that town has four polling stations. So, I asked, then where are the people? They said a KIA vehicle had loaded them to Bamboi because Asiedu Nketiah was coming there and everybody was going to see him. They rather wanted to see General Mosquito. 15 trucks - full of NPP, NDC, neutrals, everybody was going to see Asiedu Nketiah,“ he said.
