Nana Nkansah Buadu, the Chief of Agric Nzema in the Ashanti Region, has expressed frustration over recent developments within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the chief, if the party continues to treat him unfairly, he will respond accordingly.
He said he has financially supported and financed the NPP for decades and cited several contributions he claims to have made to the party and its leading figures.
"From 1992, when I was a young man, I was the first person who bought a car for Adu Boahen. Ask Lawyer Atta Akyea, ask Dan Botwe, ask Nana Akufo-Addo. Ask Kufuor about the money I spent on the party. Ask Nana Addo about the cars I bought for him. Ask Atta Akyea about the pick-ups I bought for them to campaign with.
"Have you ever heard me speak like this before? But I am speaking today out of pain, and from today I know what to do, “ he said.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on July 16, 2026, Nana Nkansah said the NPP is heading in the wrong direction and alleged that some individuals within the party are trying to tarnish his reputation despite his longstanding support.
NPP cancels three constituencies executive elections
"This morning, if they dare me, they will be sorry for what I will do to them.
"I think about people, so after the election I checked on everyone to make sure no one had been hurt. But ask Kodua whether he has even checked on anyone to find out if they were injured. All he knows is to announce that the election has been cancelled.
"If he is a man, he should come and conduct the election. Anyone who is a man should come and vote here. As I speak to you, come and see the demonstration in the town. Who will vote here? If anyone is a man, let him come here and vote and see what happens."
The chief also praised President John Dramani Mahama, saying he had received more support from him than from any other president.
"Mahama is one of the presidents who has helped me more than any other president. I go to his house, and he also comes to my house. Whenever he comes, he helps me.
"If Mahama is in a meeting and you call him, he will return your call when he is done. But our own people have a pompous attitude.
"Ask Nana Addo about the cars I bought for him. I even bought a Maybach for him."
His comment follows the Afigya Sekyere East constituency executive election, which was marred by chaos after parliamentary aspirant and media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, together with members of his team, stormed the election venue to allegedly serve a court notice claiming the election had been injuncted.
Their presence triggered disturbances at the venue, leading to the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah and members of his team. They remain in police custody.
According to the chief, he is being accused unfairly in the developments of the election.
Meanwhile, the NPP has cancelled constituency executive elections held in three constituencies in the Ashanti Region after determining that the polls were conducted in violation of party rules and directives.
The decision was taken by the party's National Steering Committee after reviewing the constituency executive elections held nationwide over the weekend.
In a statement dated July 15, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, the party named Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa as the affected constituencies. It said the election results had been annulled due to breaches of the rules governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections and, in some cases, the disregard of subsisting court orders.
According to the statement, the elections in the three constituencies were conducted "in flagrant disregard of party directives, the Rules and Regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections and, where applicable, subsisting court orders."
"The party wishes to assure all members that it remains firmly committed to upholding the rule of law, ensuring strict compliance with its Constitution and Regulations, and preserving the integrity, credibility and transparency of its internal democratic processes," the statement added.
As part of the decision, the National Steering Committee has summoned the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee to appear before it on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to explain the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the elections in the affected constituencies.
The party also referred disputes relating to the Asante Akyem Central constituency election, together with all other unresolved constituency election matters, to the Electoral Affairs Committee of the National Council for advice and recommendations.
According to the NPP, these measures are intended to safeguard the integrity of its internal electoral processes and ensure full compliance with the party's constitution and regulations as it continues its nationwide constituency executive elections.
