‘Titus-Glover employed pastor to pray for VALCO at company’s expense’ – Aboagye Gyedu claims

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, has made allegations about the management of the state-owned company under Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, who served as its Chief Executive Officer in 2023.

Aboagye Gyedu alleged that during Titus-Glover’s tenure at VALCO, the former Greater Accra Regional Minister employed a pastor whose main responsibility was to pray for the company, with the pastor’s services allegedly being paid for by VALCO.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on September 16, 2026, Aboagye Gyedu said he initially assumed the pastor was a staff member of VALCO because of how frequently he appeared at the company’s programmes and activities.

According to him, it was only later that he discovered that the pastor was not a regular employee of the company but was allegedly being paid whenever he appeared at VALCO functions.

“He, Titus Glover, was the only CEO who had a police bodyguard, a PA, a photographer, a driver, a secretary and even a pastor, all being paid by the company. He employed a pastor whose duty was to pray for VALCO, and the company was paying him. When I first went there, I thought the pastor was a staff member. Whenever we were hosting any programme, the pastor would come, but I didn’t know that every time he appeared, he was being paid by the company,” he claimed.

Aboagye Gyedu further questioned the manner in which Titus-Glover managed VALCO, suggesting that his transfer from the company to serve as Greater Accra Regional Minister was linked to concerns about his performance.

He argued that VALCO, as a state-owned enterprise, should be managed differently from a government ministry, department or agency (MDA), particularly because a state-owned enterprise is expected to operate efficiently and generate returns.

Aboagye Gyedu therefore alleged that Titus-Glover failed to appreciate the distinction between managing an MDA and running a state-owned enterprise, which he said contributed to concerns about his performance at VALCO.
