'They want to replace Mahama, not reset Ghana' - Kwesi Pratt on NDC appointees

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has criticised some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what he says is their growing focus on succeeding President John Dramani Mahama instead of helping him deliver his reset agenda.

According to him, some of the people appointed by President Mahama to help implement his plans are more interested in who will replace him.

He said President Mahama came to power promising to address challenges in sectors such as education and health and introduced the reset agenda to tackle the country’s problems, but some of his appointees have instead betrayed his agenda.

“To be honest, I feel very sad for President John Dramani Mahama. I mean, the betrayal of President John Dramani Mahama is monumental.

“There is a gentleman who came to the people of Ghana and said, look, there are problems with the country, and I want to solve the problems in the educational sector and health sector and so on.

“He proclaimed a reset agenda, and he appointed people to assist him in realizing that objective, and many of the people he appointed to help him realize that objective, they don't just care,” he said.

Kwesi Pratt said the situation was worrying because some of the appointees, in his view, were not focused on restructuring the economy or delivering the reset agenda.

“They don't care about reset. They don't care about restructuring the economy. They don't care about anything. All they care about is replacing him,” he stated.

He expressed sympathy for President Mahama, saying the situation had left him struggling to assert his authority.

“What? Poor Mahama. Poor Mahama, and he's sitting there being held hostage,” he said.

Kwesi Pratt also criticised the party and its members for failing to focus on the 24-hour economy, one of the NDC’s key campaign messages.

Pratt is of the view that the growing focus on succession was taking attention away from the government’s programmes.

“Visit the NDC social media platforms and see what is happening there. Who is talking about how to achieve the 24-hour economy? That's not their concern. It's about who is going to replace Mahama. It's so sad. It's unbelievable,” he added.
